How to Compress, Resize and Convert Images Online for Free

Pick the right image tool

A smaller file, a smaller picture and a different file format are related goals, but they are not identical. Compress Images changes encoding settings to reduce storage size. Resize Images changes pixel dimensions. Convert Images changes the output format. Choose the tool that matches the requirement you received rather than reducing everything at once.

For example, a form might require a photo under a particular file-size limit while accepting its existing dimensions. Compression can help there. A website might request a square image with exact dimensions, which needs resizing. A recipient might accept JPG but reject WebP, which needs conversion. Read the requirement first and keep an original copy before making changes.

Select files and inspect their previews

Open Way2Sign Free Tools and choose the image tool you need. Select JPG, PNG or WebP images from your device. The shared upload card shows filenames, sizes and thumbnails. Tap a thumbnail for a larger preview without leaving the app. Image dimensions appear alongside the selected file.

You can choose up to 20 files, totaling no more than 150 MB, with a 50 MB limit per file. Practical pixel limits also apply: input images must be below 48 megapixels, and exported images below 24 megapixels. Large compressed photos can still require substantial memory when decoded. On a phone with limited memory, process a smaller batch rather than repeatedly retrying all files together.

Compress images with a quality check

Open Compress Images, choose an output format and adjust quality when the format supports it. Lower quality can reduce file size while introducing visible changes. Higher quality preserves more detail but may produce a larger file. Run the tool, then compare the before-and-after previews and reported sizes.

Compression does not promise that every image gets smaller. Some originals are already efficiently encoded. If the newly encoded file is not smaller, the tool keeps your original and identifies that result clearly. Check the actual output filename and format, because a retained original can keep its original extension instead of the format you requested.

For document photos, inspect small print, dates, signatures and sharp edges. A file-size saving is not useful if important content becomes difficult to read. Prefer a slightly larger readable result over a smaller blurred image when sharing a document.

Resize by percentage or dimensions

Open Resize Images. Percentage mode scales each image relative to its original dimensions. A 50 percent setting halves width and height; it does not guarantee that the encoded file size will be exactly half.

Dimensions mode lets you enter width and height. With Keep proportions enabled, the image fits inside that box without stretching, so one resulting dimension may be smaller than the value you entered. Disable the setting only when you intentionally need the exact width and height and accept a change in proportions. Enlarging a small picture creates more pixels but does not recover detail absent from the original.

Choose JPG, PNG or WebP

Open Convert Images when format compatibility is your main goal. PNG preserves transparency and uses lossless encoding; its quality slider has no effect. JPG cannot retain transparency, so the tool fills transparent areas using your chosen background color. WebP supports transparency and quality controls, but confirm that the receiving service accepts it.

Animated input becomes a single still frame. These tools prepare still images rather than preserving animation. Review transparent logos on both light and dark backgrounds before choosing JPG, because the replacement background becomes part of the exported image.

Download individual files or a batch

Each processed image has its own download button and before-and-after preview. For a multi-file result, Download all creates a ZIP containing uniquely named outputs. Extract that ZIP before uploading images to a service that expects individual picture files.

Open at least one saved result to confirm dimensions, format and visual quality. Check every image when the batch contains documents or different orientations. The processing happens locally on your device. After a successful download, Way2Sign may invite you to rate your experience; that feedback is optional and is separate from the image processing workflow.

Common questions

Why did compression keep my original file?

The encoded result was not smaller. Keeping the original avoids replacing it with a larger file.

Why is my resized image not exactly the entered dimensions?

Keep proportions fits the image within the requested box. Turn it off only if you accept stretching to exact dimensions.

Why did my transparent image gain a background?

JPG does not support transparency. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency, or select the JPG background color you need.
