Check what the sender actually sent
A WhatsApp message may contain a PDF attachment, a Word file, a photo of paper or a link to a managed signing service. These need different handling. If it is a signing invitation, follow the invitation. If it is an attachment, confirm that the sender accepts a separate signed file.
Ask for the original PDF when the message contains only a blurry page photo. A screenshot can be incomplete or compressed, and a signature will not restore missing text. Confirm the request through a known channel if the sender or agreement is unexpected.
Save a WhatsApp document on iPhone
Open the attachment and use the available share/save action to keep a copy in Files. Choose a location you can find again. Avoid using a screenshot or only saving the first page as a photo. Menu placement depends on your app and iOS version.
Open Safari directly and visit Way2Sign. Select the saved file through the document picker. If it is in a cloud location, wait for the local download to finish before loading it. The iPhone signing guide covers the browser download and Save to Files steps in more detail.
Save a WhatsApp document on Android
Download the attachment and locate it using the device's file manager or WhatsApp's available share/save controls. Android folder names vary by phone and app version; do not rely on a single hard-coded WhatsApp folder path.
Open Chrome or another compatible browser, visit Way2Sign and select the local file. If the picker shows only pictures, choose its document browsing option. A PDF attachment is different from a photo, even if both have a preview in the chat.
Sign the document
- Wait for the document's pages to appear and read the content.
- Open Signature Studio and choose Draw, Type or Upload.
- Create the signature, position it on the required line and resize it.
- Add your printed name, date, requested initials and any required form values.
- Tap Download Signed and complete the browser's save action.
- Open the saved result independently and verify the pages, signature and date.
For DOCX input, the signed export is a PDF. Check page breaks and confirm that the sender accepts that format. For page photos, inspect resolution and make sure you have every required page.
Send the signed file back through WhatsApp
Return to the correct chat, open its attachment controls and choose Document or the equivalent file option. Select the downloaded signed copy, not the original unsigned attachment. Add a short message identifying what you are returning.
WhatsApp's attachment help describes sending PDFs and documents. Exact icons vary, so use the document attachment route available in your app. Sending a screenshot as a photo is a different workflow and can lose quality or pages.
Wait for the message to finish sending, and ask for acknowledgment if the document is important. Keep the saved PDF and relevant messages. Being visible in your browser is not evidence that the recipient received it.
What if it still looks wrong?
- Missing page: compare the source attachment's page count with the saved export.
- Blurry document: obtain the original PDF rather than a re-forwarded photograph.
- Wrong file returned: use a distinct name such as “Agreement-signed.pdf.”
- Attachment cannot load: check the format, completeness, restrictions and available device memory.
Way2Sign provides visual signatures with standard processing in your browser. It does not certify identity or notarize documents. Confirm any special execution requirements before relying on this quick file-return workflow.
Common questions
Can I sign a PDF without leaving WhatsApp?
This guide uses WhatsApp to receive and return the file, and a full browser for Way2Sign. A signing link or built-in feature may have its own process.
Should I return a photo of the signed page?
Prefer the actual exported document when that is what the sender requested. A photo can lose detail and other pages.
What happens to a Word attachment?
Way2Sign renders supported DOCX input and exports a signed PDF. Check layout and confirm PDF is acceptable.
